The Clarity Commitment
I, in my clearest moment of thought and at my best self, acknowledge the following:
Alcohol has caused me significant trouble in my life. It has strained my relationships with loved ones, including family who no longer speak to me, and has led me to hurt and damage connections with others. While drinking may provide temporary comfort, it ultimately brings out my worst self—clouding my judgment, making me vulnerable when circumstances overwhelm me, and pulling me away from the clarity and strength I possess when sober.
I recognize that there are two versions of myself: the person who is at their best—clear-thinking, capable, and in control—and the person who succumbs to alcohol, leading to regret and harm. In this moment, when I am at my best, I choose to honor the better half of myself. I understand that abstaining from alcohol is in my best interest, allowing me to preserve my relationships, my well-being, and my true potential.
Therefore, I hereby agree and commit to the following:
- I will not consume alcohol in any form, effective immediately.
- This commitment is made to myself, for my own benefit, and to restore and maintain the life I deserve.
- I retain the right to amend or revoke this contract at any time, but only when I am in a state of clear thinking and acting in my best interest, not under the influence or impulse of alcohol.
By signing below, I affirm that this decision is made freely, with full awareness of its importance, and in the spirit of protecting my future and those I care about.
